Many couples often want more than just signing a book in a council office, which is a bit clinical. Luckily there are a range of gay wedding ceremony options open that will make your day really special.

Those of a religious nature will have to find a gay friendly celebrant from the particular branch of religion they follow, which could mean that you have to book a church/synagogue/mosque, if they will allow it, at the same time as you book the registry office. Some may prefer to do the registry office first with a couple of close friends or family and then build the wedding day celebrations around their wedding blessing. It is often possible to hold the blessing out doors so check with your religious officiate first.
If you are getting 'married' at a private venue, your religious celebrant may come and perform the blessing after the official registrar has done the signing but care will have to be taken as there should not be any religious aspect to the civil partnership ceremony.  You could hold a Roundhead and Cavalier themed wedding at an old stately home and put your vicar in a priests hole until the registrar has left.

If you do not have strong religious  convictions but would still like to celebrate your union with a gay wedding ceremony, there are lay-celebrants who will have  wedding vows or will create a wedding service based on own ideas.

Finally there are Pagan celebrants who will craft you a blessing in harmony with the seasons and Mother Earth.
