wedding centerpieces ideas
A great way to save money on your wedding budget is to do your own wedding centerpieces. If you keep it simple, you can have elegant centerpieces without breaking the bank.

Fill cylindrical vases of varying heights with a combination of fruit and flowers. Top up with water and arrange in the center of each table. Try limes with dendrobium orchids, lemons with cranberries, and oranges with roses.
Buy glass fish bowls at the pound shop and fill them with fish! You can find goldfish pretty inexpensively eit at a local pet store. If you have the money, try to find beta fish in your wedding colors! One word of caution if using live fish: be sure to give their water lots of surface area to provide enough oxygen. The last thing you want is a bunch of dead fish decorating your tables.

One couple wanted to be whimsical at their reception, so they collected up all the board games they loved as children Ants in the Pants, Monopoly, Sorry, etc. These were arranged on the tables with decorative accents surrounding them.
This is probably the cheapest do-it-yourself centerpiece of all! Gather up branches, driftwood, leaves or pine cones. Spray them with metallic silver spray paint and arrange in the center of the tables. Add a few tea lights and you have a shimmering centerpiece perfect for a winter wedding. Looks stunning against a black or dark colored tablecloth.

Another bride wanted to reflect the personalities of her and her partener. They were country people, she says and liked a cold beer on occasion. She took longneck beer bottles and steamed the labels off of them. She created their own beer labels on her computer and glued them on with a hot glue gun. She splatter painted them before attaching the labels and tied each with a piece of twine. Truly unique, we think!
For a wedding table centerpieces we like the idea of taking a pint sized jar and wrapping it with tissue paper tying a ribbon around the neck to secure it. Place flowers in the jar, potpourri or whatever you think fits you as a couple.

Scour charity shops for interesting looking vases. Mix and match colorful vases in scattered arrangements for your centerpieces. Even drinking glasses could attractively display single stems. Add a few colorful blooms, and you'll have a lovely bohemian look for your reception tables.

If youre getting married around a holiday, you can come across some fun decorations that celebrate that holiday. At Christmas, spray paint pine cones silver and gold and surround them with pine sprigs. Having an Easter wedding? Use plastic Easter eggs and that annoying plastic grass you put in the Easter baskets.
Buy yourself some hardy but exotic blooms, such as anthuriums or birds of paradise. Place two or three stems in a simple glass filled with white riverstones. Accent with a few white pillar candles.

If youre having an outdoor reception, decorate around that. Use lots of live flowers and greenery to reflect the beauty of Mother Nature surrounding you. If its windy, avoid using candles and be sure any balloons are secured so they dont blow away!
Having a less formal wedding? Add a lighthearted touch with candy bowl centerpieces. Start with a set of attractive glass containers you found at a craft store or your local Wal-Mart or Target - these could be fluted glass bowls, oversize goblets, clear glass pitchers or anything that strikes your fancy. Now fill them with anything you like, ranging from pastel M&Ms to jelly bellies. Finish them off with a silk ribbon round the edge. You can even stick a long-lasting, casual, pesticide-free flower right in the middle, such as a Carnation or Gerber daisy. These centerpieces are easy to put together, and your guests will enjoy munching on them throughout the evening.
If you want the floral look but don’t have the time to mess with fresh foliage, take a good look at silk. Almost every hobby or craft store offers a wide selection of silk flowers that you can arrange into lovely centerpieces long before your crunch week arrives. These flowers are much more durable than the real thing, so you can experiment at length and explore your creative horizons. The same store will probably offer all sorts of inexpensive vases, but you may find you like the look of your silk flowers even better without a vase, tied with simple twine or ribbon, just like meadow blooms.

Wedding Candle Centerpieces
A centerpiece of candles gives off romantic light and can easily be set-up ahead of time. Likewise, food can be used as an attractive yet functional centerpiece. Consider arrangements of tropical fruits - including star fruit, pomegranates cut in half, melons and citrus - for a lovely summer centerpiece sporting bright colors.

There are some candles available now, that have great scents as well as great decor, since they obtain items such as cinnamon sticks, fall leaves, berries, and cloves. They are just the most awesome candles I have ever smelled or used. With these, you wouldn't need flowers and you wouldn't need a mirror or a dish. Just simply light the candle and set it on the table, and add great scents to your reception. Just make sure they smell fresh and not like overbearing perfume.

Tip: always remember to do a mock-up centerpiece a few weeks before the wedding, so you're sure it lives up to your vision. It's also a smart idea to enlist the help of a few friends if your centerpieces are even slightly labor intensive. With a little creativity and a little effort, you'll have unique wedding reception centerpieces in no time!

If you like the flowers but hate the thought of all those blooms going to waste after the reception, why not use potted plants? You can find inexpensive ones at home improvement stores, greenhouses and even grocery stores, all of which periodically discount their plants like mad to clear out the store. You’re sure to find lovely, fragile blooms perfect for repotting in more attractive containers that match your wedding’s color scheme. Or if the pots aren’t half-bad, sponge-paint them or add a little gilt and a satin ribbon to spice them up.
