A gay wedding day would not be complete without a gay honeymoon destination, whether you go straight after the reception or take it later.
Money of course, will be a decider in where you go but it should be somewhere that both have been longing to go to, just so it is a special time.
You really want to be able to relax and enjoy each other so it is worth considering gay friendly honeymoon destinations first, that way you can avoid any hassle and bad looks.
Some countries should be avoided all together, as at best, being gay is frowned upon or at worst it is illegal. Do you really need "and this picture is us in our honeymoon cell".
If you are unsure, check with a gay friendly tour operator.
Europe is normally ok as is the east and west coast of America, Key West in Florida is a popular destination. Further afield South Africa, Australia and New Zealand make great gay friendly honeymoon destinations.
If you are booking into a hotel and you want the honeymoon suite, you may need to book at least six months in advance and remember to inform them that you are a same sex couple to avoid any confusion on the day. Tell them that you are newly weds as they will often offer a room upgrade or at least a complimentary bottle of champagne or chocolates or flowers.
Make sure you have organised any visas and other paperwork and any innoculations you might need. If you are going to areas with Malaria, it is important to take the right types of tablets.
Pack a small first aid kit, even if you are going somewhere civilised, make it a large one if you are going on safari.
For long haul flights, wear something comfortable, slip your shoes off and drink plenty of water so that you arive in good shape at your gay friendly honeymoon destination.
